The year is 1984, and on the rural East Coast of New Zealand “Thriller” is changing kids’ lives. Inspired by the Oscar nominated Two Cars, One Night, BOY is the hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age tale about heroes, magic and Michael Jackson. BOY is a dreamer who loves Michael Jackson. He lives with his brother ROCKY, a tribe of deserted cousins and his Nan. Boy’s other hero, his father, ALAMEIN, is the subject of Boy’s fantasies, and he imagines him as a deep sea diver, war hero and a close relation of Michael Jackson (he can even dance like him). In reality he’s “in the can for robbery”. When Alamein returns home after 7 years away, Boy is forced to

confront the man he thought he remembered, find his own potential and learn to get along without the hero he had been hoping for.

Grand Jury Prize Nominee at Sundance Film Festival and generating over $9 million at the New Zealand box office, Boy is sure to delight Australian audiences when it releases August 26.

Gregoire Canvel has everything a man could want: a wife he loves, three delightful children and his dream job. He is a film producer and discovering talented film makers and developing films that fit his conception of the cinema – free and true to life – is precisely his reason for living. His job is demanding and Gregoire devotes almost all of his time and energy to his work. Although he spends weekends with his family at their house in the country - gentle interludes away from the hustle-and-bustle of metropolitan life – even these precious moments are often interrupted by demanding directors and concerned investors. While Gregoire’s very presence commands admiration and his exceptional charisma leads many to believe he is invincible, the future of his prestigious production company, Moon Films, is in doubt. Too many productions, too many risks, too many debts. While storm clouds are gathering, Gregoire powers through at all costs. But he is soon forced to face the facts; the end of Moon Films and, in a word, failure. What follows this realisation are the consequences of one gamble too many, and a series of events which will change the lives of his family forever.
