Usha & Umesh Chandra

Umesh & Usha Chandra, publishers of the Brisbane Indian Times, have been successfully operating the multi-cultural newspaper for the last five years.

Aside from being the co-publisher of the Brisbane Indian Times, Usha Chandra is also the director of Globenet Realty with offices at Redcliffe and Boondall, QLD.

 

Usha has owned and operated Real Estate offices in Wavell Heights, Boondall, Bracken Ridge, Taigum and Redcliffe. Her career in Real Estate began as a salesperson, a field in which she excelled; even today she enjoys nothing more in her business than selling. She believes in concentrating and being an expert in one area, a belief which has seen her operate in the local area for the last 20 years.

 

During her sales career, she has won various sales and listing awards, including top sales award in Queensland. She draws on her experience gained by her prior association with major Franchise groups like Century 21, L.J.Hooker, T.J.Walker, Nationwide Realty and PRDnationwide before setting up her own network of Globenet Realty offices.

 

On migrating to Australia in 1987, Usha combined her love of helping people and her strong business acumen to make her an outstanding success.  Usha has a Bachelor of Arts degree, Diploma of Business Management, full Real Estate Agent's license and is a Commissioner o Declaration in Queensland.

  

Usha has a strong presence in the local community, and has over the years contributed to many charities in the local area. She supports the Boondall State School’s fete on an annual basis. Through her community involvement and excellent sales record she has truly become a local identity.

 

Umesh Chandra is currently the President of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) - Queensland Chapter.  He organized the successful inaugural of the GOPIO Asia Pacific Conference held on September 2008 with delegates attending from Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Singapore, Malaysia, South Africa, India and Australia.

 

He is Secretary General of the Federation of Indian Communities of QLD (FICQ) which is the apex body of major Indian Associations in QLD representing member associations at various levels of government.

 

Also, he is the current Vice President of the Queensland Multicultural council (QMC) which organises multicultural events for better understanding of diverse cross cultural values, customs and traditions.

 

Aside from being very active in various community associations, Umesh is also the Convenor and Broadcaster of the Bollywood Show on Radio 99.7 FM on Monday nights from 7 to 9 pm. 

 

He is also the Secretary and Broadcaster of Radio 4EB 98.1 FM bringing Hindi programs on air every Sunday from 9:15 to 10:15 am.

 

Umesh is also the founder and drummer of the most performed Bollywood Band in Brisbane - the Brisbane Babas Band.  The band is known for its energetic, colourful and hip Bhangra beat which they perform live.  They have performed in the different states and has always been invited to perform in different Australia Day Celebrations every year.
